Hellbred are willing evildoers who, shortly before their death, honestly regretted their actions but perished before they could seek proper redemption or restitution. These are characters that willingly and openly committed evil acts and actions, not just those that were tricked or blackmailed or the like. They are bad people who know that they are bad, and have done bad things, only to seek redemption either just before or at the moment of death. Literally pulled from the flames of Hell by an intervening power of Good, their bodies are scorched and scarred by the black flames and their memories of their former life faded and vague. They have been given one last chance to earn salvation, but unless they perform some deed or earn some boon to secure their freedom their souls remain forfeit to the powers of darkness. Most Hellbred are paladins, clerics, or other crusading heroes, eagerly seeking every opportunity to make the most of their impossible opportunity.
Hellbred are reborn in a new body, not necessarily the same age, race, or sex of their original. This body has been created for them, and has no connection to their past life. They do not remember their past life clearly, and will often only have vague hints and minor memories of their past terrible deeds so that they can try to atone for them. However, the lack of detail and clarity often leads them to seek out incredible acts of Good, because they can never be certain if it will be enough to earn their redemption.
Must begin as Good or Neutral due to how they gained their second chance. If the character falls back to Evil, the deity that offered them a chance is very likely to make sure they ended up where they were going in the first place.
