A blackguard is a champion of dark deities and fiendish lords, granting them unholy strength in exchange for their eternal loyalty. While lesser examples serve as temple guardians for their wicked gods, the stronger ones become something else entirely; many refer to powerful blackguards as anti-paladins due to their completely evil nature. They become villains of the first order, equivalent in power to the righteous paladin, but devoted to the powers of darkness. At the highest echelons of power, they are rewarded for the blighting of their souls by gaining access to the mighty Unholy Avengers, weapons that only the foulest being would dare take up.
