Origin regions are where your character was born and lived before their arrival in Cormyr. Origin regions also determine what regional languages your character starts with in addition to any other automatic languages given by your race or class, before your character gets to choose any additional bonus languages for their intelligence score.
Origin regions can be selected by talking to the Recorder of Origins before talking to the Divine Ascendant when creating a new character.
Some Origin Regions are locked to specific races or to approved unusual background/exotic race application
If a region your character originated from is locked to you or you need to change your origin region, you can post an application for the region in the Misc Requests forum.

On Cormyr and the Dalelands, we have a languages system which allows characters to talk to others in various Forgotten Realms languages (at least, the ones that are scripted and officially supported on the server).
During character creation, language widgets will be given to you when you:
Your total Bonus Language Slots is your Intelligence Modifier. This is used when talking to the Keeper of Languages. Your Bonus Language Slots does not limit you from learning additional languages through forum application and roleplay after character creation.
Characters can learn new languages post character creation by application at the cost of skillpoints.
You need to spend a minimum of 1 month roleplaying the learning of the new language under the tutelage of another character who knows the language.
Once you've spent a month attempting to learn the new language, and you have 2 free skillpoints for spending (or 1 skill point if you have majority Bard class levels) you can submit a Misc request and contact a DM to pay for the language with your skillpoints and receive your new language.
Note that some languages, such as Netherese (Loross) have additional requirements:
Netherese (Loross) requires 10 skill point ranks spent in Knowledge: Netheril.
To speak in a language, you type /<the language name>
What you want to say.
Example:
/elven Hi, I'm an elf! I've got long ears!
This will replace your message in chat with the spoken language. Characters who can understand the language will see your message, characters who do not understand your language will instead see an unintelligible translation.
Characters who do not understand the language you're speaking in will make a silent skillcheck to identify the name of language being spoken.
Note that there are some special languages which do not provide untranslated messages for characters who don't know the language:
But wait, there's more! Languages can also be used in item, character, door, and placeable descriptions by writing [language:text]
eg:
Two lines of text are written on this sign, the first line reads "[elven:I'm written in elven!]", and the second line reads "[draconic:and I'm written in draconic.]"
NOTE: The following languages do not work in descriptions and will not be translated:
Emotes surrounded with asterisks will not be translated for other players. Text surrounded by brackets []
will also not be translated, and the brackets themselves will be hidden. You can use brackets to not have spoken words translated into the language for other characters who don't know the language to still be able to read.
You can use /lock to lock the language.
Examples:
/halfling Yeet! *Throws an egg at Tahlran*
/dwarven For clan [Oghrann]!
/elven "Greetings to you, friend." [The slender elf performs a bow]
/lock /giant
/lock /common
The Comprehend Languages spell allows you to understand and read, but not speak in, other languages.
The Tongues spell allows you to understand all spoken languages, but only allows you to speak in a single chosen language for the duration of the spell.
Thieves Cant on Cormyr and the Dalelands is a series of hand gestures or body language; or coded phrases hidden within normal speech; to communicate basic information to others who know Thieves Cant. Thieves Cant is only available to rogues, bards, and harpers, and is lost if those classes are removed from the character. Thieves Cant is given automatically to all rogues.
Drow Sign Language is only available to drow characters. Drow Sign Language is a military signaling language of hand movements and gestures used for silent and secret communication between drow warriors.
Druidic is the secret language of druids, bound by the oaths druids have sworn to keep secret and to never openly speak it in front of non-druids. Teaching druidic to non-druids will violate your druidic oath and will result in your character becoming an ex-druid. Druidic is automatic for all druids.
Animal is not a "language", and should not be treated in-character as such.
Animal cannot be taught to other characters or learned at creation. Animal can only be gained through classes or through racial templates. Please see the Divine Craracter Rules post on Animal.
After having selected your character's origin region during character creation, new characters will be presented a list of available deities for selection, curated down in availability according to the character's alignment, classes, race, and origin region.
See our full server rules for divine characters and deities for more details, along with the full list of pantheons and deities we support on the server.
Only the deities present in our deity selector are officially supported on Cormyr and the Dalelands, though more deities can be requested if a valid 3e/3.5e Forgotten Realms source can be provided for the deity.
Old characters who have not yet set their deity, or characters ECL 12 or below who are not a divine character who has established their deity in roleplay during a DM quest may freely change their deity at the Divine Ascendant NPC in the OOC Room. All other PCs must submit a Deity Change request in the Misc Requests forum to change their deity. Divine characters who have established their deity in roleplay or who are above ECL 12 require an approved atonement DM quest to change their deity.
After taking your first level in cleric or changing deity, clerics will be presented with a required Cleric Domain Selection menu for correcting any invalid domain choices chosen during level up. This menu will only show domains available to you from your chosen deity, and will only appear if your character has incorrect domains for their deity.
Favored Souls cannot change deity without a relevel or rebuild of all Favored Soul levels.
